Maintenance of Tungsten Carbide Drawing Dies

Tungsten carbide drawing dies are widely used across various industries due to their durability. To extend their service life, it is crucial to follow proper use and maintenance methods.

Maintenance of Tungsten Carbide Drawing Dies

Key points to consider when using tungsten carbide dies:

  1. Ensure Smooth Equipment Operation:
The wire drawing drum wheel and wire guide wheel should operate smoothly and flexibly, with strict control of runout tolerance. If any worn grooves are found on the drum or guide wheel, repair them promptly.
  2. Maintain Proper Lubrication:
Good lubrication is vital to ensure wire surface quality and prolong the die’s life. Regularly check lubrication levels, remove copper powder and impurities from the oil to prevent contamination of equipment holes. If lubrication fails, replace the lubricant and clean the system immediately.
  3. Proper Die Matching:
Ensure accurate and consistent control of wire surface quality and dimensions to reduce wear on the drawing drum wheel and minimize equipment load. For sliding wire drawing machines, understand the equipment’s mechanical elongation and select the sliding coefficient appropriately—this is crucial for die matching.
  4. Adjust Compression Angle:
The wire material and surface reduction rate are closely related to the compression angle of the die. Adjust the compression angle based on the size of the surface reduction rate to optimize performance.

Maintenance of Tungsten Carbide Drawing Dies:

Effective maintenance and repair are essential to minimize costs. Over time, vibration causes the initial contact area of the compression zone to wear, forming small annular wear marks that expand into the sizing zone. This reduces surface quality and increases wire size. Severe wear may lead to cracks, causing the die to fail prematurely.
